Writing from Both Sides of the Brain

After 5 years in the industry, I decided to pursue the art of storytelling through scientific communication. I discovered my passion for boiling down complex ideas while I was a research coordinator for the lung cancer program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. I was working at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center when a family member was diagnosed with cancer. After their diagnosis, they had no idea where to start. Having inside industry knowledge, I was able to walk them through the process and translate some of the scientific information for them.

It was at this moment that I realized how big the communication void can be between scientists and lay audiences. I write to help bridge this gap between doctors and patients to help them better understand their options. I write to help scientists resonate with investors so they can gain the funding they need to bring their innovations to life.

After graduating from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology, I worked in a variety of healthcare and biotech sectors. Prior to my writing career, I worked in oncology research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and worked for several biomanufacturing companies in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. During my time at Johns Hopkins, I earned the executive certificate in healthcare leadership and management from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
