Emoji, Assumptions, Affective Labor, and You

Emoji have become a common and valuable tool in digital communication in recent years. Existing research shows that emojis provide nonverbal cues and emotional nuance in digital communication (Lawton, 2017). Existing research does not, however, perform a comparative analysis of emoji use on a social media platform to test how people respond to emoji use. Such an analysis would quantify the value of emoji and lay a foundation for understanding emoji as communication tools.
