Highly versatile writer with extensive knowledge of health care industry

Barry Cohen has nearly 40 years in communications and marketing, the majority in senior positions at three large international health care companies – Abbott Laboratories, Warner-Lambert (now part of Pfizer) and Bayer, Inc.

Cohen has a wide range of experience in media relations, preparing speeches and by-lined articles, investor relations, marketing, financial communications and television production. For seven years he served on the investor relations team at Abbott along with the company’s CEO, CFO and treasurer. Cohen also oversaw the company’s award-winning annual and quarterly reports and was responsible for both the company’s investor seminar and annual shareholders’ meeting.

At Warner-Lambert, Cohen oversaw a staff of nine professionals responsible for media relations, product publicity, the company’s grassroots legislative program and employee communications. He has lobbied members of the U.S. Congress on behalf of Stericycle, a medical waste disposal company. Cohen has also helped generate positive feature articles on his organizations in prestigious national business publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week and Financial World. He has also helped develop public relations programs to support more than 20 major over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceutical products, including Listerine, Lubriderm, Alka-Seltzer and the first FDA-approved drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease, Cognex.

As primary company spokesperson, Cohen directed the company’s media responses to product recalls, environmental spills and financial results. He has written numerous speeches, including one for the president of Warner-Lambert that was later published in Vital Speeches.

After relocating to Phoenix, Cohen earned a series 7 broker’s license and was employed at Charles Schwab as a registered representative. He returned to the communications field with CPRi Communications, where he wrote numerous case studies and bylined articles for the company’s clients in the health care information technology industry.

Cohen also wrote and edited a magazine for physicians in the Phoenix area. He was also a reporter for a Phoenix-area community newspaper, covering business, sports, politics and community events. He has written freelance articles for a number of marketing firms and has produced pieces analyzing healthcare stocks for the financial websites GuruFocus, InvestorPlace and Stock Traders Daily. He recently completed a nonfiction book about a Phoenix-area man who disappeared for 17 years before returning.
