Experienced freelance writer and consultant specializing in SEO, SMO, blog posts, and copy. My focus niches include education (robotics, computer science, and physics), engineering, and technology. I also run my own blog, grumpygrape.com. I am happy to take on all types of work and can write in a tone suitable for any audience. Most days I am working on assignments that require copywriting, fiction writing, marketing, or product reviews. I am also an accomplished grant writer. I am available for journalism, whitepapers and technical writing in addition to everything else I have mentioned. Thanks to my background in teaching, I am excellent at hitting tight deadlines and communicating with my client to ensure high-quality work that meets every expectation.
My background experiences are what set me apart from other writers by allowing me to connect to a wider range of audience than your average freelancer. I have been on archeological digs, achieved certification in primate handling and zoological disease prevention, performed as a drummer in Chicago's 90's punk revival, and enjoyed researching plasma physics at UW-Madison. For a while, I even pursued ASE certification and worked as an auto mechanic.
Most of my work experience is in education and extends back 14 years. I have taught courses in environmental science, ecology, robotics, and all levels of physics. Curriculum writing and design were also regular features of my job and I have created many courses for Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Clients of mine include manufacturing companies such as Tencom Ltd. and retailers like Book Like a Boss and High Point Scientific. I have received over $100K in corporate and community grants from such organizations as Google, J.C. Penney, IDEX, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. I am a member of the Independent Writers of Chicago (IWOC) and the Chicago Writers Association.
