Brant Wilkerson-New

Content Strategist, Copy Editor, Copywriter, Editor, Ghostwriter, Writer

Former journalist looking to grow!

Brant most recently launched HeelsMaven after three years at the Greensboro News & Record, where his work earned AP Sports Editors top 10 national recognition four times for his coverage of Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State and the ACC. He has picked up another five N.C. Press Association awards for work that ranged from an investigation into reclassification and Marvin Bagley’s early enrollment at Duke to a multimedia timeline profiling the life and career of NASCAR legend Richard Petty.

A native of Durham, N.C., Brant began his journalism career as a student at UNC Wilmington where he gained a great appreciation for mid-major basketball before spending several years away from journalism.

Upon his return in 2013, he won the Associated Press’ Walter Spearman Award for the best writing by someone with two or fewer years of experience in North Carolina while covering high school sports at the Winston-Salem Journal. Prior to joining the News & Record, Wilkerson-New spent one season covering Appalachian State where he followed the Mountaineers during their historic transition to FBS and a Camellia Bowl victory in 2015 before covering the Carolina Panthers through their run to Super Bowl 50.

Brant lives in Durham with his wife, Lauren, and has no plans to leave the area -- unless, of course, the perfect opportunity pops up near Wrightsville Beach.
