Being captivated by a good story is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It’s why I love being a storyteller.
A journalist for 21 years, I covered government, legal affairs, and many other subjects. Most of all, I treasured the in-depth pieces that explored social trends and universal truths about human nature.
Back when I got my degree in journalism, I had no idea the industry would nearly collapse in two decades. I retired in 2010, as mass layoffs crippled newsrooms across the country. Journalism had changed and so had I.
But my deepest desire had not. I began a journey of self-reflection to discover what it was in me that brought out the best in others. In the end, I came back to the beginning: I love writing inspiring stories that add meaning to life and helping other people write theirs.
Persistent and curious by nature, I find precious insights through careful research and interviews. I have an ear for narratives that captivate readers and an intuitive understanding of the structure and elements that make a story sing.
Taking a collaborative approach to editing, I work tactfully with authors to clarify and strengthen their stories while retaining their voice.
I now write and edit for Biography Masters and provide editorial services for other print and online clients through my business, Caren Tells Your Story.
