Creative writer with a technical bent when required
I'm a wordsmith at heart. I write linguistically technical, yet creative, stories on behalf of a reading and dyslexia specialist as part of a new literacy course. My client describes this form of writing as "technically detailed, intensely cognitive composition approach/process". It is challenging but a lot of fun. I also write linguistically conventional, creative stories for clients and proofread reports for a workplace investigator.
I respect deadlines and offer professionalism, confidentiality, creativity, versatility, above average attention to detail, a keen eye for proofreading and exceptional English writing skills.
English is my first language. I write in both UK and US English. Afrikaans is my second language. I love writing in general but have a special interest in creative writing, technical writing, legal matters, website and social media copy, US politics, advertising, jewellery, sewing, craft, health, nutrition and vegan cooking. I am studying human biochemistry informally for fun.
I am a non-practising South African attorney residing in Australia. I obtained my BA in Legal Theory and Institutions and Industrial Psychology from Wits University in Johannesburg, and then my Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the same university. I was later admitted to the side bar as an attorney and have worked in assorted positions as both an attorney in general practice and as a legal advisor in diverse industries (restaurant franchising, private health, a brewery, pharmaceutical company and a steel plant). The latter position involved legal compliance, industrial accidents and investigations, and environmental issues plus all other general and incidental legal matters facing such an industry. I then decided to take a break from law when motherhood arrived and make custom jewellery from home.
FURTHER BACKGROUND DETAILS
As a fully qualified, non-practising, South African attorney (residing in Australia), I have extensive experience in drafting contracts and legal documents. I'm not offering any legal advice at all but I can produce certain documents competently within the legal realm either 1) as a preliminary document to then be handled by a lawyer or business associates, or 2) legal writing outsourced to me by a lawyer as a legal team support member or paralegal.
I have experience in the jewellery industry including manufacturing, website copywriting, social media, jewellery photography and graphic design using Photoshop and Illustrator (Adobe Creative Cloud). See my jewellery website chantelmccabe.com.
I am also a keen artist with specific interests in acrylic painting and digital art using programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate. I have a modest collection of original surface designs available on Spoonflower for printing onto fabric or paper and a portfolio of completed goods using some of these designs on Society6.
