Literature graduate with four year's IT experience across Sales and Consulting
I work as a freelance writer and editor, with a technical focus.
I studied English Literature at a top University in the UK. For the proceeding three and a half years, I worked at IBM. During University, I was exposed to formal, academic writing and reading. In this way, I am well-equipped to proof read and edit anything upto English Literature degree standard. At IBM, there was a demand for concise, business and technical writing. I worked with internal developers, marketing departments, account owners and with third-party client teams. The objective was always to communicate clearly. What I have found key about business language, is that the most important part of writing, for example, a whitepaper or technical presentation, is understanding what it is that the sponsor is wanting to convey to the target audience.
I have experience in the following areas: whitepapers; sales proposals; product overviews; product guides; training guides (technical and non-technical); technical system guides; proofreading of external-facing material; copywriting for new technical products. My particular strength, which is the combination of my degree and work experience, is communicating clearly and correctly. As a user, I dislike overly-complicated "business-speak". As a writer and editor, I will never generate it.
I am more than happy to speak on the phone or over video conference if you would like more information.
