Clint Quickfall is my name. In the North suburbs town of Parow, I was born in April 1977 in Cape Town, South Africa.
To the fortunate couple Mr. C & Mrs. E Quickfall they always protected us as children against the harshness of the Apartheid period although it affected my family heavily. At grade 11, I left school to start working, one of the reasons was the amount of funding we needed to survive. And yes, it was difficult to find anything worthwhile without a degree. I was fortunate because my uncle was a company welder and I started at the bottom of the barrel. They shut their doors after a year or two because they had Family issues. Now that I was out of work and in desperate need of money, my life was taking a turn for the worse; I was hooking up with the wrong people, fighting, and the list goes on; still, nothing was illegal, and I was lucky once more.
When my father learned I was going down this route, he applied for a position in the South African Navy on my behalf, and I was invited for an interview at one of the naval bases not long after. What's more, I was selected for the Navy, which is an honor. I moved on to Basic Training, where I did so well that I was given the option of choosing where I wanted to be stationed; I chose Simons Town Base, and after another year of Mechanical Training, I joined the MCM Fleet, a Mine Hunting unit. 10 years on my Father passed away and I left the Navy.
I began working offshore in the mechanical oil and gas industry and ended up in Secunda, Mpumalanga working for various construction companies before Covid-19 came along. I have been unemployed for a year and decided to start writing and trying to generate an income online, which is difficult but believe me I am trying. I now have my own family, which consists of a lovely wife who works as a frontline worker and two sons, ages 17 and 7, so all I do now is for their futures.
