Writing has always been a sideline for me. For over 25 years as I built my career in digital across startups, government and corporates I almost always wrote on the side, spending 10 years as a freelance journalist and contract author - writing for major press publications and how-to books on a range of tech topics - while taking startups from concept to public listing.
In government I wrote an internationally syndicated blog on the side. it was read by hundreds of thousands more folks than the minutes I wrote for Ministers and the heads of department (or the web content I wrote and edited for agency websites).
In corporate life I let the side writing slide for a few years, with only an intermittant blog post - but wrote over 60 tender proposals with the same tender care.
now I'm back in startup land, and picking up the digital pen again.
