Copy Editor, Copywriter, Editor, Writer

Creative (Copy)Writer & Editor

I received my MFA in Creative Writing from George Mason University, where I served as the Poetry Editor for Phoebe, an arts & literature journal with national distribution. Apart from my work with poetry, I have a range of writing & editing experience, including freelance content development for clients in the fashion and home repair industries. Over the past eight years, I have written interviews, blog posts, book reviews, press releases, flyers, and website content (including item descriptions, "About Us" pages, and other customer-facing copy). Prior to graduate school, I worked as an Executive Assistant to an entertainment attorney, where I reviewed, edited, and updated contracts and helped craft communications between the attorney and his high-level clients, their labels, and their music publishing companies. I also spent a year as a Subtitle & Caption Editor for a small but busy media company in Burbank, California.

Most recently, I have garnered five years of experience in higher education, teaching Writing, Rhetoric, & Composition at CSU Dominguez Hills and UC Irvine. I am highly skilled at genre-appropriate, audience-focused writing, and I have taught my students to write successfully in a range of styles, from proposals to digital portfolios.

Since 2008, I have been an active volunteer with WriteGirl Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization that empowers at-risk teens with monthly creative writing workshops. As part of my work there, I have developed workshop content, lead writing sessions, and mentored teen writers on a one-on-one basis.
