As I was graduating from the University of Colorado-Boulder with my M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications, newspapers throughout the United States were collapsing. We lost the Rocky Mountain News that year. The job market for a new graduate in this field was very slim. Despite the challenges in the field of Journalism, I had a job within a month of graduating. I worked, using both my Spanish language skills and my writing skills, as a paraprofessional educator for English Language Learners in the Denver Public Schools. However, I really wanted to work in a field where my writing and editing skills were the primary focus. The print market had not gotten much better, but within a few months, I found myself working as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) content writer. I am now a top-rated writer at The Content Authority and am a top-rated writer and editor at Zerys. I am also the New Product Showcase Editor at Hobby Merchandiser and do project-based content writing for several clients. My success in the field led me to create my own business, Elegant Expressions Creative Services. Once I had my business for a couple of years, I pursued a graduate certificate in business administration. I work on diverse projects. Those projects include editing the new product showcase as well as copy editing the magazine for Hobby Merchandiser, writing web content, editing student papers and writing and editing resumes and cover letters. I have even edited a novel and two short stories. Additionally, I use both traditional marketing methods and online marketing methods to promote my company.
