Fran Jurga is the founder and editor of her own small company, Hoofcare Publishing, and is a freelance writer and blogger with experience in natural history, equine health, and entertainment/media. Her blog for Equus Magazine won three American Horse Publications “best blog” awards and two consecutive “Equestrian Social Media” finalist awards.
She is the author of the award-winning book, Understanding the Equine Foot, as well as books on travel and food, including the popular Farmers Market Cookbook. Fran has been featured as a horse industry expert journalist in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Louisville Courier-Journal, Smithsonian Magazine, Money Magazine and the BBC, among others. She has a love for fact-finding research, and tempers her penchant for tech gadgets by indulging her love for old books, music, and living in a seaside town.
With a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and creative writing from Simmons College in Boston, Fran has written for many major country living and travel publications and websites, and also writes about television and film.
Look for Fran walking on a beach whose name isn’t on the map, at the head of the line to get into a used book sale, or helping with the horses in the paddock at Saratoga.
