Ten Fun Facts (about my experiences and accomplisments):
- Managing editor of what was, at the time, the most heavily trafficked website (Infoseek)
- Editor-in-chief of 2 top-50 magazines (MacUser and PC/Computing)
- Successfully pitched a new print, online, and video publication to Martha Stewart
- Launched a campaign that earned our organization’s founder a spot on the California commemorative quarter
- Oversaw production and promotion of an Emmy-winning documentary that garnered record ratings for PBS
- Launched and managed social media for Palm (including @palm, recognized by Twitter as one of the 50 most influential channels)
- Launched and managed internal communications channels (email and print newsletters, intranet, stakeholder reports, etc.) for startups (including and Zinier), agencies (including a division of Ogilvy PR), and nonprofits (including the Sierra Club, Techsoup, and Living Goods)
- Produced song parodies for internal and external use and wrote music, lyrics, and scripts for several community theater productions
- Discovered and nurtured dozens of talented writers and editors who subsequently achieved success in such diverse roles as Roger Ebert’s frequent writing collaborator and the editor-in-chief of California (UC Berkeley’s award-winning alumni magazine)
- Interviewed, edited, and/or recruited such luminaries as Douglas Adams, Penn Jillette, James Burke, and John Cleese
- Books: Co-author of the first comprehensive history of one of the pioneering startups, 3Com, and ghostwriter and editor for several other books on topics ranging from developing new business models for innovation in developing economies, growing up in India as an untouchable, and a history of Star Trek.
