Continually transforming ideas into written stories

Hi! I’m Maria Bernadette Romero. I get to buy shiny new things because of writing. I’m also an occasional music photographer at night.

I write not just because it is a requirement in my work but because I find liberty in it. I write even if it means 10 missed calls from my sister or boyfriend and neglected invites from friends to dine out in our favorite sushi house. I write because I live in a mad country and writing is my escape from it so that somehow I could convince myself that I am not part of the madness.

I write because GGM, Murakami, and Ricky Lee encouraged me. I write because I don’t want to suffer the same thing Charlie of ‘Flowers for Algernon’ suffered because of idiocy.

I write because I have many voices in my head, urging me to tell stories despite sore feet after a day of coverage and heavy eyelids after a whole night of catching up on my TBR files.

Lastly, I write because I love how words are transformed into something magically beautiful. I’d like to believe that writing could change a person’s life, and if I’m lucky, I could change the impaired system of my beloved country.
