I grew up in a tiny town in Vermont and have since been able to travel all over with my family. From dog mushing in Alaska to snorkeling and surfing in Hawaii, I've been an explorer all my life.
I've written 15 books, including the bestseller, "Without a Net: Middle Class and Homeless (with Kids) in America," published by Viking, and have had work featured in The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, Redbook, Salon.com, on NPR, and in many other publications. I also have 8 children.
