After working as trainer, web developer, and eLearning developer for nearly twenty years, I recently decided to pursue my love of words and language while continuing to embrace my technical know-how.
To that end, I recently completed the University of Washington's editing certification program and will begin their localization certification program in September 2019. Additionally, I am working on a Master's in Translation for French to English. French is my strongest language, and Spanish is a close second. I am working on German (currently about a B1 level) and am conversational in Italian, Portuguese, and Czech. Working with words and language, including English, is my greatest passion. My experience as both a learner of languages and a teacher of English as a Second/Foreign Language has given me an intuitive sense for words and meaning across various tongues. It's also made me unusually savvy in the ways of grammar!
I have experience across a range of technologies, and I'm highly adept at simplifying technical concepts for the layperson. My background in coding websites has taught me to pay close attention to the details. I see those tiny little things–a missing apostrophe, a wayward line break, incorrectly nested commands–that can cause entire websites to fall apart. As with websites, missing punctuation and incorrect words can obscure the message and intention of a written document.
Lastly, I’m a member of the Northwest Editor’s Guild, ACES: Society for Editing, and the Northwest Translators & Interpreters Society.
