We all live, and we all die – two truths that can’t be argued. For most people, the space between birth and death holds their attention and is the focus of their journey. Patty Burgess, however, sees the ending point of death, with its surrounding fear, stigmas, and mystery as a rich area to indulge her ever-expanding curiosity for deeply engaged, heartfelt life experiences.

Patty’s experiences with dying and death moved her over the years from volunteering to community education in the hospice industry, and now to end-of-life educator, end-of-life doula, speaker, and writer. She began integrating her experience and insights into “doing death differently” and saw that this approach of "leaning-in" to death dramatically changed those facing the end of life and their loved ones.

Patty passionately feels that avoiding or ignoring feelings, fears, and conversations about death and dying, sadly, also leads to avoiding or ignoring important connections, so needed at the end of life. There is a way to BE with the dying that is transformative. She learned first-hand that living and dying can co-exist beautifully in any present moment.

Patty was led to create experiential training where she teaches how to “Do Death Differently”, not be overwhelmed or afraid, but to marvel at the meaning, connection and even awe inherent in the honor of BE-ing with the dying.
