As a hearing child of deaf parents, I have a unique relationship with words
A hearing child of deaf parents, I was a writer from the beginning. Sign language allowed letters and words to come alive in my fingers, and helped me to understand writing in a naturally refreshing way. I found beauty in words being loud, active, expressive- even in the silence of the deaf world. I fell in love with them and they became my own form of personal expression- at first through journaling, and more recently through blog posts and independent research studies. I find personal pride in being able to connect deeply with others and help them tell their own stories.
