Reginald Tiro Richardson a multi-award winning broadcast journalist with 20years experience in the industry. A recipient of the 2017 BONELA Human Rights Award Mr Richardson has displayed a propensity for serial award winning through his meticulous attention to detail and dedication to the media industry. A member of the inaugural team at the state broadcaster Botswana Television, Mr Richardson became a successive recipient of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Botswana) News Reader of the year Award (2002, 2006 and 2007). In 2007 he became a finalist of the CNN Africa Journalist of the Year at the same time that South Africa’s private television station, eTV recruited him to be part of their new 24 hour news channel (2007 to 2010).
In 2011 Mr Richardson joined Gabzfm’s breakfast show as a co-anchor responsible for current affairs until he was given sole command of the show in 2013. Under his direction the show bagged numerous awards including MISA Botswana’s Best Current Affairs Show (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014). This serial award winning streak also saw him being recognized through more awards ranging from Best Reporter on Population and Development Issues to Best Reporter on Education.
Always on the lookout for the next showstopper Mr Richardson left the entire nation in awe successfully initiating, organizing and moderating the Gabzfm Elections 2014 parliamentary and presidential debates traversing the entire country in a space of 3months for the first ever comprehensive debates in Botswana. “We were on the road for 96 days, 114 hours of debates and covered more than 11 000 kilometers across the country”.
