Biography of Richard Owen Nelson, Topeka, Kansas
Born and raised in northeast Nebraska yet a Kansan for over forty years, living primarily in Topeka, Kansas. Married to Phyllis in 1986, they have 2 sons, 3 daughters, 5 grandsons, and 5 granddaughters; soon to have a great granddaughter.
Member of People-to-People Goodwill Mission to Europe in 1962. Traveled to Kenya, East Africa in 1991; primarily in Nairobi and Karatina; crossed the equator twice on visit to President Daniel arap Moi’s home as part of a delegation from Topeka, Kansas.
Writing & photography for bi-weekly newspaper, fourteen years. Have small paperback books of photos and poetry on Amazon.com, listed under Richard Owen Nelson.
Hobbyist photographer 25 years, photographing nature, public, family, and church events. Photos displayed on www.Kansas.gov site. Displays privately at www.Classmates.com web site. Receives critiques through exhibitions and displays, Topeka Camera Club, and family and friends.
Provides photos to missionary doctor in Kenya, for display in bush clinics, and free distribution to patients. Photographs local ministry and church events as a personal ministry.
Displays focus on floral close-up’s, landscapes, and historical buildings. Photographs weddings and receptions, anniversary receptions, wedding and baby showers, and stage plays.
Enjoys photographing flowers/ grasses, antiques/’uniques’, buildings/landscapes, individuals, and church theatrical presentations, rehearsals and make-up sessions. Prefers un-staged opportunities.
