Formally trained in Film and Media Studies, I enjoyed a 4-year career in South Africa's TV industry working in both the live TV environment as well as pre-recorded. My experience during this time includes scriptwriting, booking guests, producing video inserts, directing cameramen, video editors and graphic designers as well as shot and background music selection for overlaying live recordings and pre-recorded videos.
Not long after, I developed a love for online content writing and landed a freelance gig for a lifestyle and decor business called the ToLife Group. Here I wrote promotional articles for brands in various industries, including beauty, fashion, plumbing, construction, food and restaurants, to name a few. These were easy-to-read, SEO-friendly pieces of content that focused on upselling in a compelling and suggestive way. I'd also craft accompanying social media copy for each of the articles.
My work experience for a national supermarket chain included food-related content as well as promotional content for general company affairs. The content included SEO articles as well as email newsletter, social media, and landing page copy.
Currently, I own a textile-jewellery brand called Nomi Handmade for which I handle all daily operations. Some of my activities which can be transferred in my freelance capacity include social media marketing, website management, social media management, copywriting, SEO -friendly website content as well as Instagram and Facebook ad copy.
All of the above roles required that I had great research, interpersonal and organisational skills. I also gained proficiencies in Wordpress, social media tools such as Hootsuite, Planoly and Grum, Photoshop, Canva and Mailchimp.
Lastly, some of the courses I've completed are the Digital Essentials Programme through the Ogilvy Online Digital Marketing Academy as well as Proofing and Subediting Basics through the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism.
