Zach Mecham

A disabled writer with a unique wit and authentic voice.

As a young man living in a small town with a physical disability, I began writing with the purpose of sharing my story with others and advocating for the disability community. Quickly, found that I had a knack for telling stories in compelling and entertaining ways.

Since then, I have written for various organizations sharing my personal story. I have also been able to make a little bit of money as a technical writer for the IT department at the University I attend. Right now, I work part-time at disability rights Iowa as a media specialist. I help to manage the website, I manage their social media presence, and write press releases for the organization. I also have begun running the news website for my hometown, writing copy daily about local news.

In addition to my pursuits in writing, I am studying education with endorsements in English, speech, and theatre. By the time I finish my degree in December, I will have a bachelor of arts in secondary education and a theater minor. I get to spend every day using my passion for arts and self advocacy, while learning to teach others to follow in my footsteps.

With my writing talent, wide breadth of technical knowledge, and my expertise in theater and literature, I hope to make a living as a writer.
