I hate the gym. There, I said it. I tried to make it a part of my daily routine, but it just wasn’t happening for me. Still, a girl needs to work out and I love being able to move my body. It’s a gift that I don’t take for granted, I just don’t want to be bored while doing it. When I stopped forcing myself to go to a traditional fitness center, I realized that movement is actually fun. Now I associate working out with play, rather than just another thing to check off my “to do” list, and that is something I always seem to find time for. If you think you hate working out, try one of these fun ways to move your body in San Diego.
This is not an article on how to have the perfect relationship, but how to have a healthy one instead. There is a major difference. I think it’s common to want to chase after the figment of a “perfect” relationship, much like the ones we fantasize about in Hollywood or in fairytale storybooks. Although some experiences of love can sure feel that way, we have to remember we’re getting the filtered version, the version that fits into a 2-hour frame. A long-term relationship, however, has a number of sequels. My husband and I have been together for 12 years! I know, even I can’t believe it. That’s a rarity these days. I feel like an anomaly. While I’ve always loved the man to pieces, we didn’t start out easy. There was a lot of fighting. And time and time again there were doubts and fears of all kinds. However, today we are stronger than ever. And I’m about to tell you why.
Are you traveling, working late, living in small apartment, or simply don’t have time for meditation? I had all the same excuses, but these days meditation is as important to me as breakfast. Once you start making meditation a daily practice, you will find it reduces stress, improves concentration, and increases overall feelings of happiness, and these five apps and online resources make it easy for anyone to get started anywhere.
In March of 2014, I tore my hip cartilage while playing golf at a networking event. It left me on a cane for 6 months and in physical therapy for over a year. After a year of recovering, my body suffered from the stress of running my own photography business while I was injured. I then suffered a nervous breakdown in June of 2015 which led me to incessant panic attacks. I could barely walk without blacking out. Before all this even happened, there were red flags to warn me that my health was on the decline but I ignored them thinking I had to hustle my way through life.
Now that I’m back to work, I’m both excited and nervous. The big question is, can I trust myself to take care of myself when the going gets tough or will I give into overwhelm? The answer is yes, I can trust myself! I’ve spent the past few years learning from my mistakes, changing my ways and doing some deep inner work. These are just a few things I’ve learned along the way.
Conscious Living, also known as mindfulness or self-awareness, is the act of being fully aware of oneself and one's surroundings. Sounds like common sense, but in our busy world, it can be difficult to be fully present all of the time. So often, we get distracted by worries over the future or bogged down by memories of the past. These constant distractions are a major cause of anxiety.
For someone who has struggled with self love most of her life, I am very passionate about the topic. I know, that healthy self love has the power to change your life, from your health to relationships to your career to how you feel on a moment to moment basis. Practicing self-care has helped me learn to love myself in a way that offers a sense of internal peace in this often stressful and tumultuous world. There are many methods of self love, and the key to them all is to listen to what your heart desires. It’s time to give yourself permission to love yourself more, and you can start by adding these five self-care techniques into your daily routine.
For those of you who find meditation to be somewhat alien, let me demystify it for you. Although its origins are spiritual, the end goal is simply to quiet your mind to make room for deeper awareness. On some level, I think we all know this kind of awareness is key to finding inner peace and happiness. But we often don’t know where to start.
